A couple of weeks ago I posted a recording of “The Veldt”, by Ray Bradbury, which I recorded for my son.

Today I got a notice from my web host that I had used 75% of my bandwidth allocation for the month – something which has never happened since I was slashdotted back in the 90s. Poking around, it appears that thousands of requests were beind made for that mp3 file. There have been almost a half million requests for the file so far this month.

A quick mod_security rule, and fail2ban is now blocking 187 clients, and that’s growing at a rate of about one per second.

I have absolutely no idea why this would be happening.
