I'm looking for a walking staff with a compass, like the one that jeep carries, but without paying for the Jeep name brand. And I came across the Wilderness Walking Staff.
But the thing is, I'm really not sure whether they are serious or not. They have an order form.

Posted by: Ben Hyde on January 16, 2004 10:52 AMThe Wilderness Walking Staff is apparently for real, but the only thing being sold is the electronic book as near as I could tell.
If you google for it, you'll find 1.3 and 2.0 "shareware" versions of the electronic book. The electronic book appears to just be a ZIP file that contains a few Microsoft Write (.WRI) files and sound files. I think the point is to teach you how to make your own walking stick that will act as a survival tool.

Enjoy.

It's a shame it has a green background... just change your browser prefs and read it. It points out that on rough terrain you may want to push off of the top of your hiking stick. Jeep's staff has a strong compass embedded, so it would probably be ok. You may want to think about that when evaluating others.
