Telemarketers

I recently cancelled my long distance service, since I have not made a long distance call since December, and it's silly to pay $3 a month for a service I don't use. So far, this had been fine, and, since I usually don't answer the phone when I don't know the name/number on caller ID, this had gone well.

Well, this weekend I answered the phone without thinking, and was immediately immersed in the quagmire of a long-distance salesman determined to make a sale. I did not have the time, but somehow, I just can't hang up on someone. After saying NO about a dozen times, I started to get angry. He was going to waive the fee for a service I don't need. He was going to give me a $10 credit towards calls I wasn't going to make. He was going to do all sorts of wonderful things for me. NO. NO. NO.

Sheesh. No more answering the phone before I get a positive caller ID any more.

Quote: I just can't hang up on someone.

My wife makes a game out of it, and she is wonderful at it!! She will play their little game. She sees it as doing the world a favor and keeping them on the phone as long as possible. She also knows that many of them have a very strict policy that says that they cannot hang up first.

Now, the real issue is why you have not gone to http://www.kycall0.com/ or have called 1-(866)-kycall0 and have added your number to the Kentucky "no call" list.

What? You say you have? Well, then get as much information as you can and...

REPORT VIOLATORS
If a telemarketer calls someone on the Kentucky “no-call” list, that person should get the telemarketer's name, the company name, phone number and where they are calling from (or at least as much of that as possible). Then report the call to the Kentucky Attorney General's Office, which maintains the no-call list. Call 1-(866) 877-STOP or go to www.kycall0.com to file a complaint.
